Alexander McQueen soles

These are not shoes they are seriously works of art. These are the shoes from McQueen's fall 2010 collection. They are inspired by the art of the dark ages, McQueen manages to find some soft aspects in the darkness. It is this play on finding joy in the darkness of the art that makes these truly a work of art by a true artist.

What do you think?

Zuhair Murad

Born and bred in Beirut, Lebanon, Zuhair Murad is quickly becoming an obsession. Zuhair broke onto the fashion scene when he decided to take the risk and show his collection at Paris Haute Couture week in 2001. The gamble paid off, as the collection was really well received by the press and customers alike.

He has collaborated with Mango to launch "Mango by Zuhair Murad" and his ready-to-wear line and couture collection can be found in select boutiques worldwide. He has a unique way of blending his eastern influence and making it high fashion. His reputation is now the "rocketing star designer". Above are a few designs from his 2010 couture spring collection.

Marie Bishara

Okay, I must commend Marie Bishara for being the first Egyptian designer to show at Paris Fashion week. Marie has done wonders to incorporate Egyptian tradition into her clothes in a contemporary way. This sets her apart among the sea of talented designers showing, and she can definitely hold her own. The pattern on the sliver skirt is done all by hand in different parts of Egypt, placing it with a textured jacket was a great moment.

The scaled platelets of glitter and shine was a theme in the collection, I love the gown with the asymmetrical strap. Another great moment was the detailing on the yellow skirt. The colors through the collection were muted, black, silver, white, and an "off'-yellow.

The clothes were feminine, delicate and conservative. They were for a strong woman who wants a unique twist in her clothes. My hats off to Marie she is competing in a fast paced world, and making her mark.

Louis Vuitton

The return of the curvy silhouette! Trust Marc Jacobs to redefine the trends of the season and steer them in another direction. This collection was very circa the 1950s or 60s with the corset tops and full long skirts. Reminiscent of Dior's "new look" in the 50s.

In order to fully show off the clothes in all their glory, Marc Jacobs called upon the Victoria Secret angels. Due to their bustier set, they did the clothes justice, not too mention their out-of-this-world beauty.

The show was also a great backdrop to show case the new LV bags! There were so many reinterpretations of the speedy! The clothes, the bags, the models, all was right on point as usual for Mr.Jacobs.

Elie Saab

Wow! I am in love with this collection. Elie tapped into a "real-world" woman's closet, he veered away from his usual evening gown heavy lineup. I would wear pretty much every look, the clothes had this romantic yet edgy undertone. The play between romance and egdy translates very nicely.
The goddess feel of his evening gown is just divine! For me Elie really proved his credibility, diversity and talent with this collection.

Valentino

That's a whole lotta ruffles! The clothes were contemporary and definitely had an edge this time. The ruffles were a bit over used but were a nice theme, there was also a section using scatters of lace. The designers did not ignore Valentino's signature red in the last gown of the collection blending their theme of ruffles and the designers signature color beautifully.

Giancario Giammett, the house's co-founder, was smiling and happy watching the show, quite the difference as he had publicly criticized their designer's last collection on Facebook. This show sure did give him reason to smile, it was so much more coherent than their last collection. The designers are starting to find their way they still have ways to go however to fill Valentino's shoes.

McQueen's final collection

McQueen's last collection was shown and given honor in a small intimate low profile setting. It was an opportunity for those closest to him to grieve and marvel at his genius. The pieces were 80 percent finished at the time of his death. Sarah Burton, his right hand, has said that with this collection, "He wanted to get back to the handcraft he loved, and the things that are being lost in the making of fashion. For this collection " he was looking at the art of the Dark Ages, but finding light and beauty in it." For these garments he had ordered fabric that had digital photographs of church angles and demons to create these unique pieces.

McQueen's team were holding back the tears as these pieces walked down the runway. Of course if McQueen had put on the show there would be an added theatrical element in its presentation but the team felt that it did not feel right to do it that way and opted for this toned down presentation.

This collection portrayed McQueen's incredible skill. The fashion world lost one of their greats and this collection only reinforces this fact.
